Five finalists from the State of Hawaii and one finalist representing the other 49 states faced off in The Ultimate OCEAN Cocktail Contest on Saturday, April 11 at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. The six finalist cocktails were selected from hundreds of entries through a statewide and nationwide contest. Hundreds of people attended and great fun was had by all, with entertainment long into the night.

AND THE WINNER IS!

Ross Steidel’s Poi Dog (Lahaina, Hawai’i) won by a small margin, with just a few points separating first and second place. Ross was paired with Brandon Lee from The Pig and the Lady in Honolulu, Oahu and Make-A-Wish Hawai’i.

The winning libation will be added to the Sheraton Maui beverage menu for one year. Out of every sale of the Poi Dog, Make-A-Wish Hawaii will get $1. Last month alone the Sheraton sold over 6,000 mai tais! We look forward to seeing the great work that Make-A-Wish will do with this contribution.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, ANNOUNCING The 2015 Ultimate OCEAN Cocktail

Ross Steidel’s Poi Dog (Lahaina, Hawai’i)
1 ½ oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
¾ oz Thai Basil and Black Peppercorn Syrup
¾ oz Yuzu Citrus (¼ oz Yuzu Juice ½ oz Lemon Juice)
2 ½ oz Fresh Squeezed Pomelo or Grapefruit Juice
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper Rim

Rim half of Collins glass with salt and pepper. In a mixing tin, combine all ingredients and shake for 10 seconds. Strain over fresh ice into Collins glass. Garnish with on sprig of Italian Basil.
