(May 11, 2013) – After a year of hard work, sweat equity, awesome partnerships and lots of aloha, the team at Ocean Vodka was thrilled to celebrate the Grand Opening of their new Organic Farm and Distillery the last week of April. Seven events hosted over 900 people, giving tours of the property along with some face to face time with Shay Smith, Ocean Vodka’s CEO, and his family and business associates. Event planners, tour guides, restaurant owners, reporters, bartenders and service staff, food and beverage managers, concierges, hotel sales representatives, members of the community, the Ocean o’hana involved with the creation of the Farm, and many more all enjoyed lots of great aloha as we shared our story and enjoyed interacting with our fans.
Our musical line-up for the Grand Opening to the public on Saturday, April 27 was stellar! Starting with a blessing at 10 am with Kahu Laki Kaahumanu, musical performances throughout the day included Deason Kaohelo from Lahaina Grown, Slack Key Master Kevin Brown, Zenshin Daiko Taiko Drummers and Ukulele Master CJ Helekahi.
Our fabulous supporters HawaiiONTV.com captured the opening in this beautiful four minute video. “Ocean Vodka held an amazing Grand Opening at their new distillery in Kula Maui Hawaii on Saturday April 27th. Visitors had a chance to tour the facility and see what it takes to make amazing Organic Vodka on Maui.” Watch the video here!
Suzanne Frew of the Frew Group covered the opening in her blog post. “Perhaps what I actually like best is their story—it’s local and it’s good: Ocean Vodka is the result of a labor of love, the leadership of Shay Smith (president), the dedication of the Smith family, some obvious business smarts, great partners, a commitment to ocean conservation, and a lot of brawn. That’s real spirit!”
Peter Liu, Digital Media Strategist and Photographer, captured some beautiful images and posted them in his blog post. “Ocean Vodka has a new home on 80 acres of beautiful farm land on the slopes of Mount Haleakala on Maui. If you’ve never had their unique vodka, you really should try it. It’s 100% natural, organic and gluten free; the only handcrafted spirit in the world made with deep ocean mineral water, sourced from 3000 feet below the Big Island of Hawaii.

True to Ocean Vodka’s organic and sustainable commitment, the Farm Tour experience educates guests on the importance of organic farming for the conservation of land and ocean, green manufacturing and the production of spirits.
Areas covered in tours of the Ocean Vodka Farm and Distillery are: Sustainable farming practices with its abundant fields of sugar cane; Green manufacturing processes in its 6,000 square foot solar-powered warehouse and bottling center; Organic spirits production using 60-foot column still distillation; and local history of sugar cane farming with species identification. The state-of-the-art Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery utilizes solar panels to power 100% of the operations of the distillery and facility. The sugar cane is organically farmed on the rich, volcanic soils without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides, and mature sugar cane stalks are hand-harvested for processing. The Martini Garden, a garden designed specifically for martini lovers, will highlight fresh, local ingredients such as Kula lavender, local citrus, passion fruit, pineapple and strawberries.
