OCEAN Organic Vodka was thrilled to support the James Beard Foundation last weekend during their Celebrity Chef Tour on Maui, hosted by the Grand Wailea and Chef Mike Lofaro of the resort’s Humuhumunukunukuapua`a restaurant.
Benefiting the James Beard Foundation, renowned James Beard Award-wining chefs Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto NYC and Adele’s Nashville), Johnny Iuzzini (Sugar Fueled Inc.), Bruce Bromberg (Blue Ribbon Restaurants NYC and Las Vegas) and Nancy Silverton (Pizzeria Osteria Mozza Los Angeles) united on the Valley Isle for the unprecedented weekend of events. National media were also included.
On Friday January 23, Chef Lofaro took visiting chefs on a tour of Maui farms where they met with the farmers to determine their choice of ingredients, dreaming up their locally-inspired menus. We loved having them for a tour at OCEAN Vodka’s Organic Farm and Distillery, and served up OCEAN Cocktails all afternoon. We ended the day all together at Aina Lani Farm, where our Celebrity Bartender Gabe Harvey (winner of the 2014 Ultimate OCEAN Cocktail Contest) got creative with the ingredients from the farm and an array of juices.
The Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner was held outside on Saturday, “under the stars along the lawns surrounding the fountains and Reflections Pool.” The six course, farm-to-table dinner was inspired by the chefs’ meetings with the local farmers.
“I know that the word “sustainable” has become trendy,” said Chef Lofaro, “but we live on an island and nowhere else is it more important to work towards being self-sufficient. Buying local means we help the economy, we help local business and farmers.”
Mahalo for including us! We love supporting our local businesses and worthy national organizations like the James Beard Foundation.
