IMG_9527Saturday, May 23 is Edible Hawaiian Islands Statewide Farm Day and we join with Edible Hawaiian Islands in inviting your friends and family to get localicious with your neighborhood farmers.

Your mission? Get to know your local farms and farmers around the state of Hawai’i. Head out to meet your growers- visit a farm, take a farm tour, or shop at your local farmer’s market.

Our vision? As a community, we celebrate family farmers and producers and in doing so inspire people to buy fresh, seasonal food.

Cacao, coffee, lavender, tropical flowers, sugar cane, fruits and vegetables and so much more…there’s a bounty of sensory experiences awaiting your discovery on the many farms on each of our Hawaiian Islands.

Ocean Vodka Farm Aerial 2 Credit Blue Sky AerialsHawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm and Distillery is thrilled to sponsor the second annual Farm Day. Tours are offered every 30 minutes between 9:30 – 4:00 and include a sampling of both OCEAN Organic Vodka and Deep Island Hawaiian Rum. In addition, take home a complimentary souvenir shot glass at the completion of a tour!

Curious about what goes on at one of the only vodka farms in the world? Walking through the two-year-old farm (open in April 2013) you will be amazed at just how fast a farm can grow together. The tour includes information on what it means to be certified organic, the difference that hand harvesting makes, sustainability, and organic spirit making.

Sugar cane first arrived in Hawaii as early as 600 AD, but not until the late 1800’s did it become a key player in the evolution of commerce in the state of Hawai’i. Take an exploration through the history of sugar cane in Hawaii as you walk through a row of 27 different native Polynesian varietals cultivating on the farm.

IMG_8446-EditIf you are lucky, you might run into Master Distiller Bill Scott in the distillery, constantly working on producing quality spirits and the conceptualization of new spirit lines. Visit the bottling room, where employees and family share the responsibility of painstakingly hand bottling every bottle of OCEAN that hits the market.

Don’t be surprised if you walk away feeling like one of the family. The Smith family prides themselves on being a three-generation Hawai’i family, working closely in all aspects of the business to produce a superior product that competes globally. Employees and visitors are all family at the Hawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm and Distillery!

Before you end your stay, you will be welcomed to the sampling room, where your guide will educate you on spirit sampling as well as explain the unique combination of deep ocean mineral water and “sugar cane- based” spirits that are behind what you are experiencing and tasting.

Take your time and enjoy the view! Wander out to The Point at OCEAN Vodka and enjoy the 180-degree vista of the north and south shores of Maui.

During the festivities on May 23, Hawaii Sea Spirits will be harvesting sweet potatoes that have been growing on the land and donating them to the community.

Get involved! Keep an eye out for the 2nd Annual Farm Guide, a selection of agricultural producers from across the islands assembled in a handy, pullout form, complete with the statewide farmers’ market guide.

And don’t forget…on May 23, share your experience on social media using the hashtag #EHIFarmDay15 and tagging @oceanvodka. We’ll be tracking Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for great photos and stories. Last year at the inaugural event there were almost 3 million impressions and 800+ active users on social media.

Help us build the buzz and spread the farm-fresh love across Hawai‘i!
